Tens of Thousands of Vaccine Appointments Available at City of Seattle Sites This Week; Mayor Durkan Urges All Those Not Yet Vaccinated to Sign Up Immediately
Those Already Vaccinated Should Help Those in Their Networks Access Available Vaccination Appointments
If Demand Remains High and All Appointments Are Taken, Seattle Could Lead the Nation and Reach Community Immunity By End of May
SEATTLE (April 26, 2021) – With a surge in supply, Mayor Jenny A. Durkan today announced that there are 17,000 first dose vaccination appointments available at the four City-affiliated vaccination sites tomorrow through next Monday, May 3. All people who live or work in King County ages 16 and up can register for a vaccination at the Lumen Field Event Center, Rainier Beach Vaccination Hub, and West Seattle Vaccination Hub here, and can register for the drive-through North Seattle Vaccination Hub here. If demand and supply in Seattle remain high, the city could vaccinate 70 percent of its residents and workers by the end of May. “Vaccines save lives. With more variants in our community, you can protect your health and the health of your family by getting vaccinated. The next two weeks are key to our vaccination efforts: The City can’t end this pandemic alone – we need your help. If you haven’t already been vaccinated and you live or work in King County, sign up for a vaccination appointment today. If you have already been vaccinated, be a good neighbor and help your friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers get vaccinated. And if you know someone 60 or older who hasn’t been vaccinated, take them to our hubs in Rainier Beach and West Seattle, and you’ll both get vaccinated without an appointment. If this level of supply and demand continues in Seattle, we could fully vaccinate 70 percent of our workers and residents by the end of May,” said Mayor Durkan.

The City encourages all residents who have already been vaccinated or have secured an appointment should amplify these registration opportunities to their networks, in order to ensure all those who want to be vaccinated are aware of this opportunity.
In addition to online appointments opening up, last week, the Seattle Fire Department began administering walk-in vaccinations at their Rainier Beach and West Seattle Vaccination Hubs for anyone 60 or older who hasn’t yet received their first dose. Anyone 60 or older can head to Rainier Beach or West Seattle hubs and receive their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine without an appointment. The City also launched our Good Neighbor program: Anyone 16 or older who hasn’t been vaccinated can bring someone 60 or older who also hasn’t been vaccinated to Rainier Beach or West Seattle, and SFD will vaccinate both people, no appointment required. As of April 23, an estimated 61.5 percent of Seattle residents have begun the vaccination process, and 34.7 percent are fully vaccinated. Public health experts currently estimate that between 70 and 80 percent of the population needs to be fully vaccinated in order to reach community immunity.
Since launching its vaccination effort on January 14, the City of Seattle has administered over 139,000 vaccinations to eligible adults (over 93,000 individuals). These vaccinations have occurred at 88 Adult Family Homes, 90 affordable housing buildings with seniors and people with disabilities, 19 pop-ups, 18 permanent supportive housing buildings, two vulnerable youth-serving organizations, and the four City-affiliated fixed vaccination sites. Approximately 45 percent of those vaccinated by the City identify as BIPOC communities.
If King County residents or workers are unable to book an appointment this week, they can sign up for the City’s notification list and get notified via email as soon as appointments are available at any of the four City-affiliated sites.
