As an entrepreneur, starting a business from scratch takes patience, time, and trial and error especially when cooking a recipe. I believe that someone must love what they do for their business to succeed. Coming up with the idea of a hot sauce business wasn’t hard for me because I already knew I wanted to start a business that involved food somehow, and since I love making hot sauce at home, I thought it would be great if I could take something that I love to do and turn it into a business idea. The main reason why I started this business was because of my love for cooking. I have loved cooking ever since I was little. The very first recipe I remember having perfected is learning to make Somali tea. From that moment, I knew that I had a passion for cooking by watching my mom in the kitchen and always wanting to help so I could learn the traditional recipes. I would also be watching cooking shows on tv specifically The Food Network as well as food competitions. Since bisbas is such a staple in Somali cuisine whether it is the green or the tamarind one, it only made sense to me that I create a whole business making it and selling it besides the fact that I love to eat bisbas at every meal. Every culture around the world has its own version of hot sauce whether it is mild, sweet and sour, or extremely hot. I want to showcase our Somali version of hot sauce to the world, so more people know what bisbas is. My dream for expansion is that for now, I’m starting locally by selling my sauces to anyone in the Seattle area who is interested in buying the sauces. I’m taking baby steps and taking time to really build my brand and perfect my recipes, then eventually I will want to take my brand nationally and attract attention from other restaurant owners here in Seattle and other states. That would be my ultimate goal. My Somali hot sauces are the perfect accompaniment to any meal whether it is a pasta dish or rice dish.
