Event Aims to Serve Communities of Color
SEATTLE – On Sunday April 25, the Center for Multicultural Health will be hosting a COVID-19 vaccination pop-up event at the Emerald City SDA Church in the Central District. The event is in partnership with Mary Mahoney Professional Nurses Organization, and Dunia Clinic.
COVID vaccine hesitancy has been reported at high levels in African American communities, due in part to a history of medical malpractice and distrust in government and hospital systems. But doctors and nurses from within the African American community and local community leaders and public health outreach workers have been named as essential, trusted messengers. Thanks to the successful efforts of programs such as this vaccine pop-up, COVID vaccine hesitancy among African Americans is now approaching to be equivalent to white populations.
WHAT: Members and leaders of the local African American community hosting a COVID-19 vaccination pop-up for the community
WHEN: Dose 1 of the Pfizer vaccine will be administered April 25, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. // Dose 2: May 16 (same time)
WHERE: Emerald City SDA Church, 801 25th Ave., Seattle (you may pass any road closure signs you come across approaching the church; free parking available onsite)
